Haimbe Represents Zambia at Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group Meeting
Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, has participated in the 74th Extraordinary Meeting of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Haimbe was accompanied by Zambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Macenje Mazoka, according to a statement issued by First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at Zambia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Namatama Njekwa.
The meeting was convened by Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey and chaired by Malta’s Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Chris Fearne.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to the Commonwealth Charter, particularly the promotion of democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
Zambia currently serves as vice chair of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group, which was established in 1995 to uphold Commonwealth political values.
The meeting also reviewed progress on issues discussed at previous meetings, including calls for an inclusive interparty process, protection of civic, political and media freedoms, fair and transparent due process, and accountability for affected individuals.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s delegation is holding various meetings in New York aimed at advancing the Grow Zambia Agenda through development financing, strategic investment, diplomatic engagement and strengthening the country’s role in international affairs.
